PROFILE Raymond Hemingray studied law at the University of Leeds and at the College of Law, Guildford, and was admitted as a Solicitor in 1971. He practised as a partner in a firm of Solicitors in Peterborough (UK) until 1990. Since 1974 he has been the Registrar of the Diocese of Peterborough and the Bishop’s Legal Secretary. He is a past Chairman of the Ecclesiastical Law Association, and currently a member of its Executive Committee. He represents the Association as a Consultant to the Fees Advisory Commission of General Synod. He was a founder member of the Ecclesiastical Law Society. Apart from ecclesiastical law, his main area of legal practice has been in wills, probate and charitable trusts. From 1976 to 1993, he was Deputy Coroner for Peterborough, and from 1994 to 2004 he was Assistant Deputy Coroner for Cambridgeshire South & West. Between 1990 and 2000, he developed, installed, and supported software for Coroners throughout England and Wales. He was the co-author of database software for Diocesan Registrars and Diocesan Advisory Committees, and has also developed other database software for clients, including a private school and a hospital. Ray was ordained in July 2007, and in addition to his work as Diocesan Registrar he is now Curate of Castor with Sutton and Upton with Marholm, near Peterborough. If he can ever find any spare time, he enjoys reading, painting, cooking, gardening, cycling and hill walking. |
